              Handwritten letter to Fr. McKernan from Desmond W. McCarthy, Cork St., Dublin, reporting on Philip Cairns and Alderman Hickey. Cairns converted out of conviction in 1921, is a zealous Catholic Action worker, secretary of the Postal Workers’ Union and member of the Labour Party. Puts his Catholicism first. Hickey is an excellent Catholic and a director of the Catholic Standard.               Correspondence between John P. Keane, Deputy Manager and Town Clerk, +McQuaid and P.J. Hernon, City Manager, regarding the use of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939, to vest in the Corporation lands at the O’Brien Institute, Clareville and Glasnevin for food production. The Archbishop regrets the form of the letter as ‘gravely hurtful to the dignity of the See of Dublin.’
