Copy letter from +McQuaid to Cardinal D’Alton regarding opening and closing times of public houses.
to Cardinal D’Alton, and Pope Pius XII in relation to an article published in The Standard newspaper which is inaccurate. The article appeared on 4 March 1949 and was entitled ‘British Troops Guarded Maynooth Against Tans’. According to McCabe, who was a member of the R.I.C. at the time, there were never any Black and Tans stationed at Maynooth and the College was never under threat. The article quotes Mgr. McCaffrey, the then President of the College, who is long since dead. He wants the story to be refuted.

21-23 July 1958 Correspondence between +Levame & +McQuaid stating that 1959 marks the 20th anniversary of the accession of the Holy Father to the Throne of Peter and also marks the Diamond Jubilee of his ordination. The Secretariat of State wishes these days to be acknowledged in the form of religious celebrations, with the recitation of the ‘Pro Pontifice nostro Pio’. The Nuncio suggests that a special ceremony be held in the Pro Cathedral on 2 March and on 2 April to hold a special Mass under the presidency of Cardinal D’Alton in a church in the centre of Ireland, which can be selected at a later date. +McQuaid states he will arrange the ceremony at the Pro Cathedral and will inform the Nuncio of other celebrations in the Diocese in due course.
[February 1961] Copy letter and handwritten letter from +McQuaid to +Riberi in relation to correspondence from the Holy Father which was addressed to Cardinal D’Alton on the spiritual needs of South America. He is honoured that the Holy Father wishes his opinion on the subject but he states ‘…I am conscious that my opinions cannot seriously help the Holy Father’. He discusses the Society of St. Columban and mentions the Irish Colleges in Rome and Salamanca.
