Andrew Anglin, the son of John and Nora Anglin, was born in Aherla, County Cork, on 11 February 1900. The Anglin family were devoutly Catholic (Joseph, a younger half-brother of Andrew, also joined the Capuchins and took Henry as his religious name in 1927). Andrew joined the Order in September 1918. He took Terence as his religious name upon entering the Order. Shortly after his ordination in 1927 he volunteered for missionary work in the United States. In 1928 he was an assistant pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Fort Bragg in California and was later appointed to the Sacred Heart parish in Lincoln, Nebraska. He returned to Ireland in 1937. In 1943 he travelled to Northern Rhodesia (later Zambia) where the Irish Capuchins had established a mission custody. He ministered there until his death in Livingstone on 12 September 1947.

Joseph Anglin, the son of John and Julia Anglin, was born in Aherla, County Cork, on 29 April 1910. Andrew Anglin (b. 11 Feb. 1900), an elder half-brother of Joseph, joined the Capuchin Franciscans in 1918 and took Terence as his religious name. He later became a missionary friar, first in the United States (from 1929), and later in Africa (from 1943). He died on 12 September 1947 in Livingstone, Northern Rhodesia (later Zambia), where the Irish Capuchins had established a missionary custody. The Anglin family were devoutly Catholic, and Joseph followed in his elder half-brother’s footsteps by joining the Capuchins in Cork in October 1927, taking Henry as his religious name upon his reception into the Order. He took his final vows and was solemnly professed as a friar in October 1931. By this time, he had obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from University College Cork. Following four additional years of clerical studies at Ard Mhuire Friary in County Donegal, he was ordained to the priesthood in St. Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny on 23 June 1935. In the years following his ordination, Fr. Henry served as an assistant to Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap., the founding-editor of ‘The Capuchin Annual’ periodical. Following the Provincial Chapter of 1955, Fr. Henry was appointed editor of the ‘Annual’ with Fr. Felix Guihen OFM Cap. (1898-1981) taking on the role as manager of the Capuchin Publications Office. The appointment of Fr. Henry as editor of the ‘Annual’ elicited no real change in the ethos of the publication which continued to include an eclectic mix of articles on a wide range of topical, political, historical, artistic, literary, and spiritual subjects. Although the work of collating and editing articles for the yearly publication was strenuous and occasioned frequent bouts of stress-related ill-health, Fr. Henry succeeded in maintaining the scholarly content of the publication. Crippling financial losses brought about the demise of ‘The Capuchin Annual’ in 1977. Fr. Henry died on 30 May 1977 just a few months after completing his work on the final edition of the ‘Annual’. He was buried in the Capuchin plot in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin.

John Glenny was born in Rathkeale in County Limerick on 20 November 1887. He joined the Capuchin Franciscans in September 1906 and took Ferdinand as his religious name. He was ordained to the priesthood on 5 July 1914. A year later he was transferred to the mission custody in United States. He ministered in the Sacred Heart Parish in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was instrumental in locating a new site for a church and adjoining hall. He returned to Ireland in November 1921. He spent time with Capuchin communities in Kilkenny and Dublin (he was transferred to Church Street in Dublin in 1944). He was mostly engaged in missions and retreats until ill-health forced his retirement from active ministry. He spent the last years of his life in Cork. He was a member of the Rochestown Capuchin fraternity in County Cork at the time of his death which occurred on 28 August 1963. He was buried in the cemetery adjoining Rochestown Friary.

Edward O’Callaghan was born in Cork on 16 November 1879. He joined the Capuchin Franciscan Order in September 1896 and took Finbarr as his religious name. He was ordained to the priesthood on 28 September 1902. He was among the first Irish friars to be sent to the University of Louvain but his time (1902-4) in Belgium was cut short by ill-health. He spent the early years of his ministry as a priest in Holy Trinity Friary in Cork and was appointed Vicar for that community. In 1924 he was transferred to the United States mission and served as Pastor in Willits in Mendocino County, California. He returned to Ireland in 1936 and was again appointed to Holy Trinity Friary in Cork. He was noted for his work with the Third Order of St. Francis lay confraternity and the Purgatorial Society attached to Holy Trinity Church. He died in Cork on 9 March 1963. He was buried in the cemetery adjoining the Capuchin Friary in Rochestown, County Cork.

William Byrne was born in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, on 6 July 1887. He joined the Capuchin Franciscans on 23 May 1908 and took Aidan as his religious name. He made his solemn profession on 12 October 1912. For many years he was associated with the House of Studies at St. Bonaventure’s in Cork. He was later appointed a Brother Questor and collected alms to support the friars for over twenty years. He died in Dublin on 1 June 1963 and was buried in the Capuchin plot in Glasnevin Cemetery.

John Connolly was born in Bagenalstown in County Carlow in 1875. He joined the Capuchin Franciscans at Rochestown Friary in County Cork in February 1892. He took Clement as his religious name upon joining the Order. He was ordained on 7 February 1902. He spent the early years of his priesthood teaching at Rochestown College before moving to Kilkenny and later to Holy Trinity Friary in Cork. For some years he was principally engaged in preaching missions and retreats throughout the country and in 1910 he was formally assigned to the missionary staff of the Irish Capuchin Province. Following the Provincial Chapter of 1922, he was assigned to the United States mission. He served initially in the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, before moving to the west coast. He returned to Ireland in July 1925. On his return, he was assigned to the Capuchin community residing on Church Street in Dublin. He was appointed Vicar of Holy Trinity Friary in Cork in 1933 and was reappointed to that office after the Provincial Chapter of 1934. He continued to reside in Cork until his death on 20 April 1963. He was buried in the cemetery adjoining the Capuchin Friary in Rochestown, County Cork.

Peter Anthony Farrell was born in Newtowncashel in County Longford on 9 May 1914. He joined the Capuchin Franciscan Order on 28 October 1933 and took Mel as his religious name. He was ordained a priest on 12 June 1941. Following his ordination, he resided at Rochestown Friary for about a year. The remainder of his priestly ministry (nearly twenty years) was spent in Holy Trinity Friary in Cork. While there he organised and directed the work of the Capuchin Foreign Missions in the city. He was guardian (local superior) of the Holy Trinity community from 1952 to 1958. He died in Holy Trinity Friary on 7 November 1963 and was buried in the cemetery adjoining the Capuchin Friary in Rochestown, County Cork.

Thomas Killian was born in County Longford on 26 February 1896. He joined the Capuchin Franciscans at Rochestown Friary in County Cork in August 1914. He took Conleth as his religious name upon joining the Order. After the completion of his theological studies, he was ordained to the priesthood on 29 June 1923. Shortly afterwards, he was transferred to the Irish Capuchin mission in the United States. In 1926 he was appointed Vice-Principal of St. Anthony’s College in Mendocino City in California. At the time there were forty students, four priests and three brothers in residence. In 1928 he was assigned to be an associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he stayed until 1934. He worked at other assignments in California and Oregon until his death in October 1950. He is buried in Ukiah, California.

James MacRory was born in Belfast on 26 May 1925, the son of John MacRory and Anne Margaret MacRory. He was received as a Capuchin Franciscan novice in Rochestown Friary in County Cork in October 1943. He took Camillius as his religious name upon joining the Order. He made his solemn profession in 1947 in Ard Mhuire Friary in County Donegal where he was also ordained to the priesthood on 25 May 1951. Following his ordination, Fr. Camillus was assigned to teach at Rochestown College, from August 1951 to October 1952. He was then sent to California where he worked as an Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Angels in Burlingame from 1952 to 1960. For the next eighteen years Camillus ministered as an Associate Pastor at St. Joseph’s Parish (Roseburg, Oregon), as Pastor at St. Aloysius (Point Arena, California), and Old Mission Santa Inés (Solvang, California), and at St. Francis of Assisi (Los Angeles, California). After his return from Oxford in England where he participated in special studies from 1978-80, he once again served as an Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Angels in Burlingame. After that last assignment he became Director of On-going Education for the Western America Capuchin Province, a member of the Peace, Justice and Ecology Committee, and the National Spiritual Assistant for the Secular Franciscan Organisation (SFO). He was also spiritual assistant to the Secular Franciscans at Our Lady of Angels Parish in Burlingame, California. He also served as a priest at Mater Dolorosa Parish in San Francisco. He died on 25 December 2011 at Mercy Care and Retirement Centre in Oakland, California, after suffering from respiratory complications. He was buried in the cemetery adjoining San Lorenzo Friary, Santa Inés, California.
