Handwritten letter to Fr. McKernan from Desmond W. McCarthy, Cork St., Dublin, reporting on Philip Cairns and Alderman Hickey. Cairns converted out of conviction in 1921, is a zealous Catholic Action worker, secretary of the Postal Workers’ Union and member of the Labour Party. Puts his Catholicism first. Hickey is an excellent Catholic and a director of the Catholic Standard. Sided with William O’Brien as he held a position with the ITGWU. 276A. 12 May 1948 List of names and addresses of ‘active’ and ‘not active’ persons. Signature of J. Counihan S.J.
