              Typed note to +McQuaid from James Ardle MacMahon. Fr. D. O’Sullivan C.S.Sp., and Fr. Thomas Lucey, St. Patrick’s, Kiltegan, advise that to refuse permission could lead to serious consequences for Missioners in Lagos, while to grant it would secure more advantages than disadvantages. Fr. Lucey was of the opinion that permission would best be given without comment.

              Handwritten letter to Father from Sean O‘Sullivan. There are a number of members of the Irish Workers’ League in his district and he wants to know if Decree of the Holy Office (1 July 1949) applies to them. Some members of his CIE Study Circle asked him if they can read the Irish Workers’ Voice in order to answer the arguments of Michael O’Riordan. They are thinking of producing an opposition paper.

              Typed letter to + McQuaid from Maire Ni Gabann, Ard Runaidte, Sinn Fein. Sinn Fein requested the St. Vincent de Paul Society to reconsider their choice of lecturer for Sunday the 9th January. S.F. would not cut across any religious event, but Mr. O’Sullivan is particularly objectionable. Now appeal to Archbishop to request them to change the lecturer. Copy of refusal from S.V.de P. enclosed.
