              My dear Father in Christ,

What a joy it was to have you with us for one of our last days. I hope you were not too exhausted, that your mind is more at ease. I feel so keenly for you in all your suffering and can do so little to help.

We are, as you can imagine, very busy. Yesterday was a day of parting. Miss Murphy took to Cork. Miss Nichols to England I could not manage the Mass and I feel developed a heavy cold. It was impossible to manage it owing to --- ---- ---- my heart to you at the Mass. He understands all and sees my weakness.

I shall write fully from the boat. T…

In union, love, prayer always in the hearts of Jesus and Mary. The Crucifix is ever a reminder and such a beautiful one. Many, many thanks Remember me to all at Glenstal. Your grateful child

              TEXT

              My dear Father,
I await the answer to my were before going to see Miss McKenna. I feel so strongly in justice she should at least know of the vacancy and apply to you.

She might not consider it, taking on both work; on the other hand, she may.

She got on well with the boys and parents, kept their wardrobe beautiful, and can take over without much explaining.

Your wire has just arrived. I shall go and see her and if she is anxious to take the post. I shall advise her to write directly to you.

Now about the ties, they cannot be traced at Lyzon. Will you please post me correspondence on this matter with Dom Columba? They cannot remember them and say they may have just ordered a few dozen. Perhaps Miss Murphy would find one in the vestry. So please post up.

We shall soon have all in order with God’s help.

I see by all your letters you are very tired, have not had the time to sit down to think things out. We shall settle all when I return. You will then have estimate from Clery’s and we can compare prices, etc. On Monday, I shall have your decision on color and then go ahead without fear.

I think it was the color the boys objected to, but they will get over that when there is so much.

I wish I could take over all this for you, but I see so clearly you really like to decide all, and in these matters our tastes are not the same, so my only desire is to carry out your wishes in all things.

No house yet, but I shall return early next week, probably having come back early in Sept.

I think that girl you spoke of was good, but remember you bring back all past history Glenstal, a new group. Fr. David can advise you best on this question; he know everything. I was glad to see him looking better and bringing two novices to you; that will cheer you up.

I hope Our Lord will accept the little I try to do for Glenstal as an act of love and not allow M.M.M. to suffer by the little extra delay.

It is hard on my daughters being so much away, but they all understand it is necessary for them and Glenstal. But I have no time to do much about vocations.

With grateful thanks for your letter. I am sorry to hear Miss R’s visit was not very fruitful. Prayer is what will help her most. She needs so much grace.

              My dear Father,

You will have little time to read long letters. This is only a few lines to say I am with you all the time and pray all may go very well at Glenstal, and to thank you from my very heart for everything.

I am very tired, so have decided to take a few days’ rest before starting hard work with M.M.M.

Miss O’Rourke has just arrived, looking very well and happy.

I rang up Barlow Brisive. The flat there, I fear, is --- too small owing to your stove, so I have asked them to look out for a larger one, or would you like to have it (old playroom, billiard room)?

I shall send you down catalogue of stove for there.

You will hardly have time, but will you ask Dom David to tell my children that I have all arranged at St. josephs and just to wire me what day they come? I shall meet them at Dun Laoghaire Pier.

They are to remain in the train till things bridge to come straight out. God in His usual love has, I think, arranged all for me well there.

They will be able to continue their hidden life of charity, do the works of the little home at Nazareth. I shall probably make the weekend retreat there with them and get them settled down.

No news of the house yet, but everything is just as I would wish, and it all reminds me and keeps me in union with Jesus, My Spouse.

May God clear the way for you at every step and give you all the grace and strength you need.

              DUBLIN

              My dear Father,
Please excuse rushed note. I am sending you down today for the 3rd. Maid a black dress like others, set of ball, pepper, and mustard from Clery’s.

I got the enclosed mat, these could be made for you in any color for about 1/4 each, but as I thought them too expensive myself, I am sending you down good 1 dozen rubber ones.

A telephone message from Lawlor Briscoe today in reference to today. They say it will be impossible to get one the measurements we require and say they can make a very good job by adding two feet. This will cost 10 pounds. The leather cloth will be a dark green unless you prefer another color. Will you write direct to Lawlor Briscoe, Ormond Quay, Dublin?

I am also sending you down catalogue of stoves for old playroom. When writing, give me measurements of room.
              I hope all goes well.

I shall have news of you, all from my children

tomorrow evening ...I have decided to spend Saturday night and Sunday with them in retreat which is being held there. You will all be remembered much in our few days of recollection with Our Lord.

We can get no definite news of the house till next week as the solicitor for the owner is away. How happy we are not to have a house of our own to start, just like Our Lord,

Thank God for the charity of all. Taking us.

I wrote a short note to His Excellency saying I was in Dublin and that I would postpone my visit till I had something definite about Rosemount next week.

Met a few fifth boys at Limerick June; They would not believe me I was leaving. I hear you have birds to look after.

Must close now to catch post.
Your ever grateful child for God,

              Glenstal Priory
              St. Joseph’s
              Sunday

              My dear Father,

Miss Murphy arrived safely, and I was glad to see her and to hear of you all. Things, I know, have not settled down, but I thought it looked very well when I heard Miss Hayes had gone to bed. I hope she is not relying too much on my children and that she will win her new girls for the love of God.

I have written fully to Dom David with reference to Miss Nichols. She can, of course, remain as long as charity demands it, but I think it would be wrong to give Miss Hayes the idea they could remain indefinitely. It would not be a good policy for the incoming staff.

A few conferences from Dom David on unity of spirit, and the family spirit of humility and love would help greatly at this point—something supernatural must bind them together, seeking them in a spirit of great love and kindness tempered with firmness will keep girls at Glenstal. If we get May back, he will work well for you.

It just struck me that I did not point out to you the housemaid is free from 3 or 3-30 so as to give Nora a little work in the refectory in the afternoon while she goes along with the scrubbing, as Nora has a lot of work and may not get so much help as she does now from the new cook.

I feel very much for Miss Moynagh, and I have asked Dom David to keep an eye on her. She is selfless as far as work and all are concerned.

What is the date of the Profession?

You will have the ----- at 10 tomorrow. I wonder, has Matron the list of boys that need sheets for Sunday, this term and the tweed coats? I will wait till I hear from you how many pullovers you require with sizes, and then I shall order 1 dozen gr--- stockings of each size for you to have in stock. You have the pattern of shirts to order.

This is a very beautiful and practical retreat and very helpful to Miss Murphy. She finds it hard returning here, but I am glad all that is allowed by Divine Providence. We both washed up after the meals today.

I shall write to Miss Fee and arrange to see her sometime in case anything happens to the present Matron—I hope not.

If she seems suitable, I shall explain you are settled till Christmas, and if there is a change, then you will let her know.

I pray much for you all. I know you do not forget your unworthy and ever grateful child for God.

              Marie
