Handwritten letter to +McQuaid from Patrick Dargan, Rathgar Road. Having examined the proposed ‘Health Bill, 1950’ he is of the opinion that it deals satisfactorily with what he considers the objectional features. In his opinion the proposed amendments would render the Health Act, 1947 unobjectionable from the standpoint of Catholic moral principles.

Letter from Mgr. Patrick Boylan to +McQuaid regarding Fr. Finbar O’Mahony O.S.B., the Superior of the Benedictine University Hostel. He has been appointed Conferencier to the Sisters at the Nunciature by Mother Mary. He will not however be 40 years old until the following year and so perhaps he can be allowed to have weekly or monthly conferences with the Sisters while making it clear he has not been appointed Confessor. He notes ‘…Mother Mary has never had the slightest tendency to look on the authorities of the Dublin Diocese as deserving any special recognition or respect’.
Letter from +Patrick Boyle, Bishop of Killala, to +McQuaid accepting his invitation to the Liturgical Reception.
Letter from Fr. Patrick Leahy to +McQuaid in relation to his proposed work at the Nunciature. He hopes this will not affect his position as Curate in Aughrim Street. He will be working from 11am until 4-5pm and worries about how he will complete his duties to the parish.

Typed report on the Left-Wing Labour group, of which Patrick Gibbons is also a member. He was an active Communist 20 years ago. Some members who were expelled from the Dun Laoire Branch of the Labour Party are involved in the group. The group is to work secretly to create such a position within the Labour Party that would force Mr. William Norton, Minister for Industry and Commerce, to resign.
Typed draft of an article/speech titled ‘The Writer’ by Peadar O’Donnell. Would come near defining a writer when they reveal people “behaving and misbehaving towards one another.” The writer needs freedom and in Ireland he enjoys less than any other country. Irish writers are shut in and silenced by their job and “conditioned to bark if they want to prosper as emigrants to America.” Perhaps Ireland’s greatest cultural crime has been her waste of the poet Patrick Kavanagh.
Handwritten letter to Rev. and Dear Father from Patrick J. Quinn. He is disturbed that he has not received any indication of the Archbishop’s reaction to his design.
Typed letter to + McQuaid from Sean Fitzpatrick, Runaidhe Onorach, National Graves’ Association. The relatives of the Six I.R.A. men executed by the late Government have written to the Committee asking that they apply for the Remains to enable them to have a Christian Burial. He would be grateful if the Archbishop would ‘grant permission’ in the cases of Patrick MacGrath, Thomas Harte, Maurice O’Neill and Charles Kerins.
