              Letter from Fr. Matt Farrell, Congregation du Saint Esprit, Paris, regarding the correspondence from +de la Bruneliere which he states is very out of character. He believes the writer may be the Officialis of the Diocese, Fr. Verhoeven as he has had similar begging letters in the past. He then remarks on the situation on the island and an earlier appeal to the French bishops which was so poor it was described as the ‘silent church’.               Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: Johnson accompanied Jeffares to Paris last August. Fr. Nolan, S.J., has written a full report on the ‘Ginger Man’ for + McQuaid. The theatre is mainly based in Dun Laoghaire and its directors are Godfrey Quigley and Genevieve Lyons. Both are Catholics. All to seek information on Andrew Barr and Irwin, both from Belfast and on the council of ICTU.

              Copy letter from +McQuaid to Mgr. Gerada stating he can cancel his trip to Lourdes is necessary. September is the only month when he can ‘…get some rest’ and he had planned to go to Paris after Lourdes to meet with the Cardinal- Archbishop. That is one of the main reasons he wishes to know the arrangements for the new Nuncio.

              Letter from Pere Jacquinot to +McQuaid stating that Canon Rhodain has been entrusted to establish a Central International Committee in Paris for the relief of Prisoners of War and displaced persons forcibly brought into Germany. The Committee will supply both material and spiritual relief. He has had difficulties but these have been overcome due to the intervention of Mr. Dulanty, Irish High Commissioner in London. He hopes to meet with the Archbishop in due course.
