Scope and content

Overseas Missions: Durban; Carletonville: Botswana: photocopy of letter from the Mission Secretary General Caspar Caulfield, C.P., to the Provincial, Fr. Fergus Loughrey, C.P. Archbishop Hurley has indicated his willingness for a Religious House and public church in Durban and Bishop Boyle his willingness to accept the Passionists in Carltonville. Progress on both these matters due to Propaganda's intervention, Possible problem to know which set of transactios to conclude first. Evidence that Hurley is corresponding directly with Propaganda, while Boyle has submitted a carefully documented reply directly to the Cardinal Prefect on the question of admitting the Passionists directly to Johannesburg, The Secretary General then goes on to give a lengthy account of Boyle's letter. (A copy of this letter was later obtained by the Secretary General and forwarded to Fergus on 13-08-1958 (see 8-1-4-16 sewrial no 6829) NB THIS LETTER IS MENTIONED AT A5 IN DOCUMENT "CORRESPONDENCE RE SETTING UP OF HOUSE IN TRANSVAAL" LOCATED AT 8-1-4-1 SERIAL NO 6821.
