              Typed letter to Fr. Martin from Una Byrne. She received a reply from IHA. She will not be allowed on to the sub-committee, so she will bide her time. Otherwise she might be expelled for damaging the organisation. Has a great plan if it works. Mrs Murphy of the Iveagh Markets and 14/15 other women will join the IHA, so she cannot see the Trinity crowd staying. Mrs Murphy has lost all her customers so Una Byrne will help her get new ones.

              Handwritten letter to + McQuaid from M. Murphy. A state sponsored company is buying potash from Russia. Dockers have a ban on handling Russian goods so false declarations are made and the origin is given as East Germany. The Custom Authorities know about this and have done nothing.

Final rally to be held at Christchurch Place. Meeting made no decision on the resumption of lectures or next issue of The Irish Workers’ Voice. Articles are being prepared for The Irish Democrat, The Irish Workers’ Voice and the Democratic German Report. Donal Nevin reviewed R.M. Fox’s book on Jim Larkin on Radio Eireann.               Handwritten report saying article in The Tablet on Communism in Ireland is “rubbish”. Prof. Cleary, an American, is a “chancer”. Torture stories of IRA by the RUC may be true. Jack Murphy has left his ‘red’ friends – a big blow to them. Said the clergy got to him. Browne a loss to The Plough. Difficult to get agents to sell it. Col.               Handwritten minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following are mentioned in the report: the play, ‘Maria Goretti’, was performed in schools and parochial halls by the Daniels’ family from Leixlip, Co. Kildare. The Committee feel that it should have been submitted to the ecclesiastical authorities for approval. The membership of the Catholic Guild of Journalists is not good. The National Union of Journalists and the Guild of Irish Journalists are the other associations. There is a strong and effective need for a Catholic Guild. It suggests that an assistant chaplain to Fr. Thomas Murphy is needed and recommends Fr. Austin Flannery, O. P. Mgr. O’Halloran will discuss the matter with Fr. Murphy.
