The article appeared on 4 March 1949 and was entitled ‘British Troops Guarded Maynooth Against Tans’. According to McCabe, who was a member of the R.I.C. at the time, there were never any Black and Tans stationed at Maynooth and the College was never under threat. The article quotes Mgr. McCaffrey, the then President of the College, who is long since dead. He wants the story to be refuted.
