Letter from + Gerard O’Hara to Dr. Michael J. O’Connell seeking his advice in helping Margaret O’Leary obtain employment.
Typed letter to + McQuaid with enclosed information from Mrs. Una Byrne. Fr. Kent was approached by journalists and told that the NUJ, English and Irish, are to hold a congress in Dublin in a few months time. It is likely that the liberal group, led by McInerney, would be prominent. Irish group might vote for the re-election of Hutt, a Communist, as Secretary of the NUJ. The Guild of St. Francis de Sales has little influence. The assistant chaplain could meet the journalists and this would help the situation. Enclosed with the letter was a copy of the Committee Meeting of December 1962 and a copy of Hibernia. It contains articles by McInerney and Michael O’Leary.
Draft handwritten letter (in +McQuaid’s writing) to Mr O’Leary, from the Secretary, concerning the housing of the Redmond family. His Grace will see if he can do anything.
Copy of typed letter to Michael O’Leary, Esq., T.D. from the Rev. Secretary concerning the housing of the Redmond family. His Grace will see if he can do anything.
Document titled ‘Presence of priests on controversial platforms.’ On controversial questions, in which liberty of opinion is lawful for Catholics, should priests be allowed a similar liberty? Definite limits laid down by Plenary Council of Maynooth. Vatican Council has emphasized the active role the Faithful should play in public affairs. Regarding Vietnam, some Christians feel that U.S. participation is not justified on Christian principles. Fr. Michael O’Neill, St. Columban’s, took part in a protest meeting. On the platform were Sen. Garrett Fitzgerald, Sen. Eoin Ryan, Michael O’Leary and Donal Nevin. Fr. O’Neill said he would sign nothing organized by the Irish Voice on Vietnam as it was a propaganda body.
