              Correspondence between +Levame to +McQuaid regarding the Bishops meeting for the Province of Leinster, which is held on the Wednesday of Low Week. There is also discussion on the subject of Emigrants. An Episcopal Committee has already been established and includes the Archbishop of Tuam and the Bishops of Raphoe, Ferns and Kerry. As for the Apostolatus Maris in Dublin, the Catholic Seamen’s Hostel is administered through City Quay parish and a Vincentian father also attends regularly as Chaplain to the special work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul which has care of the hostel.

              Typed letter to Dr. O’Connell, Archbishop’s House, from J.C. Nagle, Ass. Secretary, Dept. of Agriculture. The Department have purchased three Kerry Cattle on behalf of +McQuaid and shipped them to Rev. Jean Pierre, Oise, France, at a cost of 169. 9s. 5d. The Department now seeks this repayment.

              File relating to the ‘unethical tactics’ used by Lever Brothers in advertising. On the ‘Surf’ washing powder packets they state that 1p from each packet sold will be given to the Baldoyle (Dublin) Hospital for Crippled Children. Letters from various people including Mgr.               O’Donoghue, Daniel and Eileen, Rathmore, Co. Kerry, explaining to the Archbishop why they will not send their children to the local school. The teacher treated them viciously and they transferred to another school.They have to walk 3 miles to the school and are not given free transport.
