A letter from An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire to Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. referring to the Munster Feis. Ó Laoghaire wrote ‘I used to be mad when I used to see the citizens of Cork profiting by the Feis and contributing next to nothing to the cost of the Feis’. He adds 'The people of Cork would actually let a few earnest men work themselves to death and then pay the cost of their own funerals'.

Postcard to Frank Fahy, ‘Q.2/34 / Irish prisoner of war, Lewes Prison’. The card is signed ‘Ui Dálaigh’. It appears that Fahy’s correspondent was a prisoner himself. The image-side has a portrait print of Edward Daly, the executed 1916 Rising leader. A manuscript annotation underneath the portrait reads ‘Patrick’s Day / 1917 / Q.121’. The card reads ‘Dear Frank / Just a reminder that our thoughts are with you this Patrick’s Day and every day until the sun shines for us all again’.

Letter from Fr. Patrick Lavelle, Cong, County Mayo, to P.J. Leonard referring to support for the French military ‘in this hour of bitter trial and overwhelming disaster’. A note attached to the letter reads ‘Father Lavelle / Cong / 11 Jan. 71 / French / introducing Kelly to Bishop Dupanloup [of] Orleans / Kelly wishes to join the army’. The note is endorsed ‘7196’.

Correspondence of William Connolly & Son, contractors, 37-39 Upper Dominick Street, Dublin, regarding the repair and decoration of the altar and other furnishings (including confessional boxes) at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street. Correspondents include William Connolly, Ashlin & Coleman, architects, 7 Dawson Street, and Fr. Laurence Dowling OSFC, guardian, Church Street. On 21 Jan. 1908 William Connolly proposed to Ashlin & Coleman that he would ‘execute the works in the manufacture and erection of screens at St. Mary of the Angels … in accordance with your designs … for the sum of £575. The work to be executed in the best, seasoned Austrian oak, wax polished, and in the highest class of workmanship’. Other work included the building of a new stone porch to the south side of the Church. With bill of costs for said works. See also CA CS/2/6/1/1.
