The note carries the inscription around the edges: ‘General Strike Against British Militarism. Limerick April 1919’; and in the centre: ‘The Workers of Limerick promise to pay the bearer ten shillings for The Limerick Trades and Labour Council’. The note is signed by the chairman and treasurer.

Letter from Lennox Robinson (1886-1958), 1 Clare Street, Dublin, to Fr. Henry Rope. Robinson writes ‘Things are very dark and distracted over here but not more than elsewhere I suppose. Perhaps, somehow, good may come but one often despairs of it’.
