Newspaper Cuttings Book

Newspaper cuttings book compiled and annotated by Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. Printed stamp on inside front cover: ‘Franciscan Capuchin Library, Church Street, Dublin’. The pages have been numbered by Fr. Stanislaus. The book includes on pp 71-82; 86-92; 97-100; 123-124 numerous cuttings reporting on the 1916 Rising and its aftermath. Some of the reports refer to Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. and his ministering to Con Colbert.

Bandolier and Hopsack bag

A leather bandolier reputed to have been used by an Irish Volunteer during the 1916 Rising. Retrieved from the gallery of St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street, Dublin. The bandolier has five pouches for the storage of ammunition.

The Catholic Record of Waterford and Lismore

Copies of ‘The Catholic Record of Waterford and Lismore’ from May 1916 (Vol. IV, No. 39) to Oct. 1916 (Vol. IV, No. 44). The editions contain tributes to the late Fr. Richard Henebry written by Fr. Michael Sheehan.

Daily Mirror

A hardbound volume containing copies of the ‘Daily Mirror’ (11 May 1916-17 May 1916). Gilt title to spine reads ‘Roger Casement / 1916’. The editions include numerous articles and photographic content covering the aftermath of the Easter Rising (including the executions of the rebel leaders) and the ongoing Great War. There is also extensive coverage and photographic images relating to the capture and trial of Roger Casement.
