Handwritten letter to +McQuaid from J.P. Walshe, Ambasciata D’Irlanda, Roma. Refers to Fr. Kavanagh who will do great work; Mgr. Pavan, Professor of Sociology at the Lateran; the election – hopes that the Department of External Affairs will be under to the Taoiseach. Something has gone wrong since ‘our friend’ came into External Affairs. Appalled at this man’s insincerity.

Handwritten letter to Liam (Fr. Martin) from Jim Kavanagh. The Committee feels it is not in a position to make a detailed report at this stage. For their Interim Report the following statement should be made: ‘that in the light of our investigation to-date we do not think it desirable that the Archdiocese of Dublin should be officially associated with the Credit Union Movement as advocated by the visiting Australians.’ Church could be in difficulty if it supported one form of co-operation rather than another.
