Items relating to the Institute of Almoners. The Minister, Sean MacEntee, sees the desirability of providing a complete course of training in this country for students who wish to qualify as Almoners. Mentions the arrangements +McQuaid has made for co-ordinating the social service work of organizations under his jurisdiction. The Social Service Bureau might be in a position to afford the facilities required by the Almoners for the training referred to. It is +McQuaid’s conviction that with the good will of the Catholic Societies he can provide a training unequalled by any group. He notes that a reply to B. O Nuallain excludes any reference to him personally or to his proposals, as does the Minister. Owen Cowley, Social Welfare Bureau, says they will accept Almoner students for training.
