A letter from Maud Gonne MacBride, Roebuck House, Clonskea, to Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap., referring to the issue of partition. She affirms that she ‘is one of those banned from entering the 6 counties and have been twice arrested for crossing the border’.

A clipping of an article promoting Christmas cards produced by the girls’ branch of the Catholic Action Organisation (CAGO). One of the cards is titled ‘Our Lady of the Blackout’. (Volume page 67).

1916 Rising

Negative film transparencies of various photographic prints and documents used to illustrate commemorative features on the 1916 Rising in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1942) and in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1966). Several of the prints show rebel leaders, scenes of destruction in the aftermath of the Rising, and an illustration showing the execution of a rebel leader in Kilmainham Jail.

A letter and signed print of Micheál Ó Ciánain (Michael Keenan), a piper from Shercock in County Cavan, to Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. His letter refers to a local tradition regarding Andrew Campbell (1711-1769), the Bishop of Kilmore, who was known as the ‘the Piper Bishop’ during the Penal era. Ó Ciánain explains how the prelate ‘disguised himself as a piper’ with the instrument serving as ‘a Bell to call the flock together at a time when no Bell could be heard’.

A letter from George Noble Plunkett (1851-1948), 40 Eglin Road, Dublin, to Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. Plunkett urges the publication and wide distribution of the 'statement of the case of partition'. The 'statement' is probably 'The Orange Terror' by 'Ultach' published in 'The Capuchin Annual'.

Mission and Retreat Lists

Lists of retreats and missions given by the Capuchin friars. The lists provide information in respect of the names of the friars giving the mission or retreat, the location (with occasional reference to the parish priest), and the date. Several lists are extant in the file. The file includes general mission lists from 1942-4.

Register of Masses

Register of masses at the Church of St. Francis, Kilkenny. The entries include the signatures of the celebrants. The entries were routinely signed by the Provincial Minister at visitations. Monthly totals of masses are also periodically given.
