First Students, Seraphic School, Rochestown, County Cork

An image of the first group of students at the Seraphic School in Rochestown, County Cork, in 1886. The individuals in the image include Fr. Matthew O'Connor OFM Cap., Guardian, Br. Leonard Brophy OFM Cap., Benedict MacDonald, and John Hayden (later Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap.). Most of the individuals in the photograph (including Br. Canice Rice, Br. Jarlath Hynes, Br. Bonaventure Halvey and Br. Finbarr Sullivan) would go on to become solemnly-professed Capuchin friars.

Graiguenamangh, County Kilkenny

A view of Lower Main Street in Graiguenamangh, County Kilkenny, in about 1905. The image was probably taken (or acquired) by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. (1873-1953), a Capuchin friar who was a native of Graiguenamangh. A horse drawn carriage (called a ‘brake’) can be seen carrying passengers on the right of the road. These were extensively used in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as a means of public transport and conveyance. Going in the opposite direction is what appears to be some sort of parade of horses and jockeys (in apparently elaborate silks).

Lay Temperance Society Members, Dublin

A large group of both men and women (both sitting and standing) outside the main door to St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street, Dublin. Some of the men in the back row appear to be wearing temperance badges. They are probably part of a lay temperance association attached to the church.

Lay Temperance Society, Dublin

A large group of both men and women (both sitting and standing) in St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street, Dublin. Most of the individuals are wearing Father Mathew Temperance Society badges and medals. They are almost certainly members of the lay temperance association attached to the church.

Bridges of Ross, County Clare

A glass stereo plate image of four women at the seaside cliffs known as Bridges of Ross, on the north side of the Loop Head peninsula in County Clare.

Family Group

An unidentified family group (six standing and five sitting or kneeling). This is an informal outdoor portrait of a family group probably taken in the first decade of the twentieth century.

Fr. Salvator Maria Corrigan OFM Cap. (1835-1919)

Fr. Salvator Maria Corrigan OFM Cap. (1835-1919) standing outside the main door to the Church Street Capuchin Friary in Dublin. The annotation on the cover suggests that this is a poor quality image with the subject blurred and a transparent ‘ghost image’ of another friar captured on the original glass plate.
