Paul Mary Pakenham - The Passionist: mourning envelope discovered in a box marked relics sometime during 1993. The envelope is enscribed with Paul Mary's name with a note "sermon & hair". It contained a lock of Paul Mary's hair wrapped in tissue paper and a MS note which is an aide-memoire in Paul Mary's handwriting for the charity sermon in aid of St. Clare's Orphanage which he was due to preach in Gardiner St., church the morning on which he died, 01.03.1857. The sermon was actually given by Ignatius Spencer. The tissue paper in which the hair was wrapped is still in the envelope, while the hair and sermon notes are now on display in the Museum.

Paul Mary Pakenham: Life - A "camaulye" on the life and death of Fr. Paul Mary Pakenham. A note on the bottom of the page says it was sung by Mr. Peter Fagan, Moortown, Castlepollard, the then only living singer of this ballad.

Published by G.P. Warren, 88 Thomas Street, Dublin. This particular copy is defective, with some pages missiing. It was, among other items, re-bound by the Obsequies Association of the Garda Siocana to commemorate the centenary in December, 1993, of the association of the Passionists with the police force in Ireland.

DOMINIC BARBERI - Missions: photocopy of 2nd page of letter from Thomas Constable to Marmaduke Constable-Maxwell. Contains a description of a sermon preached by Dominic in Chapel at Myddlelton Lodge, later St. Pauls Retreat. Letter was discovered by Fr. Edwin Tring. To be found in the Maxwell-Constable of Everingham Family papers, East Riding County Record Office, County Hall, Beverley. (Arundel Castle MS.)

1852009 Pakenham, Fr, Paul Mary, C.P., His Books:
A bound note book with a metal clasp containining quotatioins or thoughts in the handwriting of Paul May Pakenham. A note on the inside of the cover states that it was given by Paul Mary to "Alphonsus of the Blessed Virigin Mary, Passionist". This was Fr. Alphonsus O'Neill, C.P., who in turn gave it to his sister, Sr. Mary Alphonsus of the Passion, on 5 July, 1873. She evidently, donated it to the Passionists. Alphonsus was sent to Rome in 1853 to pursue his studies for the priesthood and remained there until 1857. (He was ordained in 1856) Paul Mary was Spiritual Director of the Students from St. Josph's Province in Rome from October, 1855 until June 18560, when he was recalled to take up positiin as first Rector of Mount Argus, so he could have given the bok to Alphonsus. (CAVE: discuss with Briam Mulcahy whether the writing is in fact Paul Mary Pakenham's - in view of MS letter at the back, dated as 1875 Writng seem similar to the other entries!!!)

Paul Mary Pakenham: Death - letter from his mother, Georgiana Emma Charlotte Lygon, from Brighton. Sorry to hear of his illness. Though circumstances have divided them these last few years, her love and affection for him is the same as ever. Hopes he recovers from this illness as he has from so many others. Joseph Smith in his biography of Paul Mary gives her name as Georgiana, but Declan O'Sullivan repeatedly gives it as Georgina. As the database in Sts. John and Paul gives her name as Georgiana, it would seem that that is her correct name.

Paul Mary Pakenham: Death - Letter from his sister Louisa Pakenham to Vincent Grotti. Thanks him for letter dated 22 Feb. giving news of Paul Mary's illness and encloses a letter for him with instructions that it be destroyed if he has died. NB. As the enclosure mentioned has not survived and as Paul Mary died on 1 March it may be that this letter did not arrive before his death, in which case Louisa's wishes would have been carried out. Alternatively, as he was not conscious, according to Laurence Carr - 2/2/6/1, her wishes may have still been carried out, as he was unable to receive her letter.
