Physical description: Text surrounded by commentary. The commentators are Philipp Melanchthon, Desiderius Erasmus, Antonius Goveanus, Julius Caesar Scaliger, Vittore Fausto, Pietro Bembo, Aelius Donatus, Giovanni Calfurnio, Adriaan van Baerland, Bartholomaeus Latonius, Pietro Marso, Johann Rivius, Etienne Dolet, Henricus Glareanus, Joannes Theodoricus Bellovacensis and Jodocus Willich; numerous small woodcuts, some repeated, within text (R. Brun, 'Le Livre illustré en France au XVIe siècle', p. 310).

The section consists mostly of programmes, administrative material and organisational records relating to Father Mathew Hall, Cork.

Letters to Fr. Fidelis Neary OSFC, guardian, Capuchin Friary, Walkin Street, from M.M. Murphy, solicitor, Parliament Street, Kilkenny, referring to a list of deeds relating to properties on Pennyfeather Lane, and to a request for a cheque for £306 10s relating to a deed of conveyance from Joseph Empson.

Copy letter from the Most Rev. Herbert B. Kennedy, Dean of Christ Church, Corrig Castle, Kingstown, County Dublin, to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OFM Cap. affirming that he pays a yearly rent of £12 5s 5d for two alms houses (formerly called the ‘Munster Arms’) to the Pack Estate. The file includes a letter from Fr. Kevin Moynihan OFM Cap. stating he is ‘writing to the Rev. Mr. Kennedy saying that at present, owing to the state of affairs, we are not anxious to invest in house property. I take it that owing to the same reason that he is so anxious to part with it’ (11 Jan. 1921). Rev. Kennedy later wrote to Nicholas Shorthall, solicitor, referring to negotiations to sell the head rent on two houses on Walkin Street, which he holds from the Pack estate, and which are currently leased to the Capuchin friars. With income tax demands in respect of said properties.

The title page reads: ‘The ledger of the Capuchin Convent, Kilkenny, August 6th 1860 and 1861-1880’. The manuscript title is initialled by Fr. Patrick Joseph Columbus Maher OSFC. Most of the expenditure entries relate to household sundries, wages and expenses incurred for the upkeep of the church and friary. Most of the income derives from monies received at collections at Sunday mass and at vespers. Monthly totals are included. The entry for 14 Aug. 1867 is signed by the Irish Capuchin Commissionary General.
