Report compiled by Fr. Edwin Flynn OFM Cap. and Fr. Donatus McNamara OFM Cap. investigating the work being done by Irish Capuchins and lay missionary workers in the Diocese of Livingstone (particularly in the fields of education and medicine). The report was prepared for Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, and is divided into the following sections: ‘A brief history of the diocese, education, medicine, leper settlements, agriculture, credit unions, homecrafts, women’s clubs, youth clubs, the handicapped, radio and cultural research, miscellaneous projects. Two appendices are extant: a map of the diocese and the distances between mission stations.

Copy correspondence of Fr. Melchor a Benisa OFM Cap., Fr. Clement Neubauer OFM Cap., and Fr. Paschal Rywalski OFM Cap., General Ministers, to Fr. James O’Mahony OFM Cap., Fr. Conrad O’Donovan OFM Cap., and Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap., Provincial Ministers, re the status of the Irish Capuchin missions in Africa. Reference is made to the request made by Bishop John Colburn Garner, Vicar Apostolic of Pretoria, seeking more priests to work in South Africa (see CA AMI/1/6/7). Fr. James O’Mahony OFM Cap. wrote: ‘We felt that this arrangement with Bishop Garner will lead to an expansion of our work in South Africa’ (21 Dec. 1948). The possibility of separating the mission in Cape Town from that in Rhodesia is also discussed (31 Oct. 1950). Fr. Clement Neubauer OFM Cap. later referred to the establishment of Cape Town as a ‘separate mission’ and to the appointment of a Regular Superior (25 Nov. 1968). See also CA AMI/2/5/7.

Copy contract between the Most Rev. Timothy Phelim O’Shea OFM Cap., Bishop of Livingstone, and Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, outlining the ‘mutual rights and obligations’ in respect of the relationship between the Irish Capuchins the diocesan authorities in the Livingstone. The appendices specify the parishes, foundations and properties belonging to and administered by the Order in Zambia.

Many of the slides relate to the visitation of the mission undertaken by Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap. (1923-2004), Provincial Minister, in 1968. The file includes:

The file also includes several non-mission photographs including images of a Pontifical Mass celebrated by Pope Paul VI in St. Peter’s in Rome in September 1970, St. Bonaventure's Hostel in Cork, and several images of family and other relations of Br. Joseph.

Letters from James Rupert Boyd Barrett, architect, 5 Camden Place, Cork, regarding design work, tenders, bills of quantities and furnishings for the new Capuchin House of Studies at Ard Mhuire Friary in County Donegal. The letter recipients include Fr. Conrad O’Donovan OFM Cap., Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap., Fr. Berchmans McCarthy OFM Cap., and Fr. Barnabas Gaynor OFM Cap. The file also includes receipts and certificates of payment for construction work on the House of Studies.

Letters from the Most Rev. Anthony McFeely, Bishop of Raphoe (1909-1986), to Fr. Nicholas O’Brien OFM Cap. and Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap. thanking the Capuchin friars for placing Ard Mhuire at the disposal of diocesan priests for their annual retreats. Bishop McFeely also refers to the plans for the Friary. He writes: ‘We understand, of course, that the future of Ards presents you with a difficult problem; we only hope that the Fathers can remain’.

Surrender by Pauline Curtin to Fr. Honorius O’Neill OFM Cap., Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap. and Fr. Cormac Forrest OFM Cap., Capuchin Friary, Father Mathew Quay, Cork, of a lease dated 11 Mar. 1931 by Thomas Ronayne Sarsfield and others to Kathleen Curtin (from year to year at the annual rent of £52). The consideration money for the surrender is £3,250. The agreement notes that the interests of Thomas Ronayne Sarsfield and the other trustees of the property (22 South Mall) are now vested in the Capuchin friars. With related correspondence.

Particulars and conditions of sale by Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap., the FMC Trust and others to Donal Herlihy of the dwelling and premises known as the Assembly Rooms, 22 South Mall (lot 1), held under a lease dated 17 Oct. 1840 (CA/HT/2/1/1/11) and part of a car park held under a lease dated 1 Jan. 1846 (CA/HT/2/1/1/9) for the purchase money of £300,000. With copy ordnance survey map delineating the said properties. Endorsed on title page with manuscript annotation: ‘Never proceeded with, 23 Sept. 1987’.
