133-134 Church Street and 27 Bow Street

This section includes deeds, leases and other documents relating to title to 133-134 Church Street and a yard at the rear of the said properties extending out onto 27 Bow Street. These plots are now partly occupied by the present-day Father Mathew Hall. Many of the documents relate to Fr. Nicholas Murphy’s efforts to secure these properties which enabled the extension of the Church Street Hall. A long-term lease of the properties was obtained in 1886 and the outright purchase of the plot was secured in 1963.

A study on Northern Rhodesia compiled by Rev. E. Hoch. The text focuses on the northern part of the country inhabited by the Babemba and other tribes. The notes are largely based on 'Rhodesia and Nyasaland' by W.V. Brelsford and 'A study of the Babemba and neighbouring tribes' by Fr. Etienne OBE. The text includes a ‘tribal map of Northern Rhodesia’ attached to the back cover.

Bill of Approximate Quantities for the Capuchin House of Studies at Ard Mhuire Friary, County Donegal. The volume was prepared by James Rupert Boyd Barrett, architect, 5 Camden Place, Cork, and James Sheehan, chartered surveyor, 20 South Mall, Cork. The scope of the work is described as follows:
'The work consists of the erection of a House of Studies, consisting of a three-storey classroom and cell block; single storey parlours, kitchen and refectory blocks; chapel, choir, sacristy, Third Order etc.; drains, sewerage disposal, drives, paths, yard, playing pitch etc., and demolition of the existing buildings'.

Expenditure Account Book

Account book of the Sacred Heart Sodality attached to Father Mathew Hall, Church Street. Details are provided in relation to routine expenses such as postage, stationary and repair work on the Hall. The journal appears to have used later as a register book for members, and as a sales book for a film screening in the Hall.

Kilmeedy Castle, County Cork

A view of the ruins of Kilmeedy Castle in County Cork. A manuscript annotation on the reverse of the print reads 'Kilmeedy Castle north of Macroom'. This tower house was built in the mid-fifteenth century by the MacCarthys of Drishane.
