Expenditure and receipt ledger

Monthly expenditure and receipt ledger for the Capuchin community, Walkin (later Friary) Street, Kilkenny. Income was principally derived from Church collections, mass bequests, Third Order subscriptions, and donations. The expenditure accounts include entries taken from day account books and relate primarily to routine household and maintenance expenses. The entries are periodically signed by the guardian and by Provincial Ministers at visitations.

Monthly expense account book for the Capuchin community, Friary Street, Kilkenny. Most of the entries relate to routine household expenses. The final pages of the volume include entries relating to monies accruing from the Quest (St. Mary’s Parish and St. Patrick’s Parish), the Dead List, and to money received for the ‘Friary Roofing Fund’.

Quest books and maps

Quest books containing maps and information in relation to the Quest by the Capuchin friars in the Dioceses of Ossory and Kildare and Leighlin. The bound volumes contain manuscript maps showing various districts and a typescript list of names of names and addresses. The file also includes loose maps and lists. The corresponding lists are arranged by district (Bennets’ Bridge Village, Graignamanagh, Thomastown etc.). The entries are listed under street name or locality and (occasionally) house number, and the name of the occupying family. The books and lists were compiled and used by Fr. Timothy Connery OFM Cap.

Street collection book

The volume list the names of collectors (probably members of the Third Order of St. Francis), and their sections (each section was organised under a religious name such as ‘St. Francis of Assisi', 'St. Aloysius', 'St. Brigid' etc.). A note dated March 1955 gives details of the amount of money collected which was subsequently given to the spiritual director of the Third Order. A list of novices of the Third Order (with addresses and dates of reception) is extant in the volume.
