Bray Head, County Wicklow

Photographic print of two women overlooking Bray Head in County Wicklow. No indication of the identities of the two women is given, but it is very likely that they are members of the extended Woodlock family. The railway in the background of the image is the Bray to Greystones line.

Unveiling of Canon Sheehan Statue in Doneraile, County Cork

A clipping of a photographic print of the unveiling of the statue of Canon Patrick Sheehan at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Doneraile, County Cork. (‘Cork Examiner’, 19 Oct. 1925). The group includes the sculptor Francis William Doyle Jones and Robert Browne, the Bishop of Cloyne.

Property Defence Association

The collection includes records created by the Property Defence Association (PDA) which was formed in Dublin in December 1880 to assist landlords targeted by the Land League or by rural agitation in general.

Irish Landowners’ Convention

The Irish Landowner’s Convention was set up in early 1888 to protect the interests of landowners in the face of agrarian agitation and legislative reforms which enabled tenant proprietorship.

This section includes deeds, leases and other legal documents relating to the title of properties on Carter’s Lane which was located off Bow Street. The documents mostly relate to properties and a dairy yard situated on Carter’s Lane between Bow Street and Smithfield Market. The section also includes the correspondence of Fr. Nicholas Murphy OSFC with the Corporation of Dublin regarding a scheme for the improvement of the area around Carter’s Lane.

Other Places (Dublin)

This section includes deeds relating to plots of ground on the Grand Canal and on Richmond Place, Dublin. These unrelated deeds may have been returned to the Capuchins in error by a solicitor’s firm.
