Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: the Committee discussed the Communist activities as published in The Sunday Independent. There are no new developments. Russia is endeavouring to build relations with European countries and Trade Union groups and Congresses. The Peoples’ College is receiving a small grant from the ICTU Rory Roberts is a keen supporter. The College caters for few trade unionists. Michael O’Leary, a graduate of UCC, was unexpectedly elected. He is friendly with Mr. Coughlan, TCD, formally the chief organizer of Connolly Clubs in Britain. The TV programme, ‘Teen Talk’, was discussed and praised, but some topics could be handled more prudently.

Typed letter to + McQuaid from Ciaran McAnally, Irish Pacifist Movement, informing him that + Roberts, S.J., former Archbishop of Bombay, will give a lecture in Dublin on the subject of the morality of modern warfare. Invites the Archbishop or a representative to attend.

Handwritten note in + McQuaid’s writing saying that he saw Acting Prior Fr. Barry, S.J., who was surprised that + Roberts would come over without notice to + McQuaid or themselves. + McQuaid pointed out the effects if + Roberts addressed the group penetrated by Communists and Left -Wingers. Suggested that Roberts preach at Mass in Gardiner Street on the Feast of St. Francis Xavier.

Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: the Russian Trade Union Movement approached Mr. R. Roberts, Secretary, Irish Congress of Trade Unions to seek active co-operation between the two unions. An enquiry will be made to the International Catholic Federation of Trade Unions for their opinion of this approach. The Workers’ Party of Ireland is active. Mick O’Riordan has resigned from CIE to devote himself to development of the Party. It is now clear that the Irish Workers’ Party is the Communist Party in the Republic of Ireland.
