Mass Intentions Ledger Book

Ledger of the monthly income derived from community masses at the Church of St. Francis. Entries are listed under the number of masses said and the amount of money received. Monthly totals are also given. A numbered list (1-124) of mass bequests is extant on pp 339-54. The entries are listed under name, the number of masses to be said, the amount of the bequest, date, with notes re the discharge of the bequest.

Mass Intentions Ledger Book

Ledger of income derived from mass intentions at the Church of St. Francis, Kilkenny. The title is given on the first page: ‘House Intentions Book’. Entries are listed under the number of masses said and the amount of money received. Monthly totals are also given. A list of bequests with the amount of masses to be said and stipends received is extant on the final pages of the volume. The entries include the Walsh bequest of January 1914 (29 masses said at 2s 6d) and ‘Mrs Fleming’s bequest’ of 8 May 1915 (40 masses at 5s in stipends). A manuscript annotation at the end of this section reads: ‘All above masses have been said, Fr. Aloysius Travers of Cork, Provincial Minister, 7 April 1915’. Entries throughout the volume are periodically signed by the Provincial Minister at visitations.

Mass Celebration on Medal Hill (Doe Chapel)

Booklet for a Mass Celebration on Medal Hill (formerly Doe Chapel) near Creeslough in County Donegal to mark Fr. Theobald Mathew’s temperance gathering at the same location on 15 June 1841. The commemorative mass, which was celebrated by friars from Ard Mhuire, was held on 21 August 1988. The file also includes a photostat copy of a letter from Andrew MacIntyre (25 Feb. 1955) to Fr. David Kelleher OFM Cap. referring to Father Mathew’s temperance meeting at Cashelmore, County Donegal, in June 1841. For more on this local commemoration see CA FM/RES/4/1/3.
