Two copies of a piece written by a Captain Kavanagh on his disapointment at missing Fr. Kavanagh and companions when they called to see him at his residence in France, This incident is covered in the Diary and again recalled in the volume "Verses and Letters".

SECONDARY SOURCES; Printed Articles: A book entitled "The Irish Colleges On The Continent Their Origin And History" by Very Rev. Canon O'Boyle, The history of the Irish College at Nantes is covered in pages 181-200. There is no mention of Fr. Kavanagh. Mention is made on page 196 that there was no literary output from the College. nor has any work from the pen of a teacher or student survived. This was written before the discovery of the Kavanagh "diary" and "verses and letters" MSS which contain a vivid account of student life there during the late 1700s and give some equally vivid descriptions of professors. N.B. BECAUSE THIS ITEM IS BULKY, IT IS PLACED ON TOP OUTSIDE OF THE HOLOGRAPH BOX.

CORRESPONDENCE RE PUBLISHING KAVANAGH DIARY:
letter from Fr. Edmund Burke, C.P., to Irish Manuscriots Commission in reply to theirs of 21st ( see item at 8/4/5/3 serial no 7140). He would have no objecton to Professor Hogan editing the diary. It would, however, need the Provincial's permission and he suggests that Commission correspond with him, Provincial, in future. He himself has written to him setting out the position. (For Edmund's letter to the Provincial see item at 8/4/5/5 serial no 7142.)
