Illustrations by Fr. Francis Xavier Dent

File containing illustrations by Fr. Francis Xavier Dent submitted by John Mescal for potential publication in 'The Capuchin Annual'. A letter (19 Mar. 1976) from Mescal to Fr. Henry Anglin OFM Cap. notes that Fr. Dent gave him final versions of his poems and some accompanying illustrations in about 1964, shortly before his tragic death. Mescal notes that poems by Fr. Dent were published in 'The Capuchin Annuals' in 1952, 1953-4, and in 1955, and expresses his hope that Fr. Dent’s final poems and illustrations can be published in the Annual. The file includes a bound volume with sketches titled ‘Mary, Mother of Sorrows’, and many ink illustrations drawn by Fr. Dent 'Annual' from c.1952-61. Includes images of the Nativity, St. Joan of Arc, landscapes and still-lifes. With newsletters from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Highbury, London (May- July 1959).

Circular letter from Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. enclosing an advertisement flier for 'The Capuchin Annual' (1940). The flier notes that the 'Annual made its appearance in 1930 and was sold out within a month: of course, only 2,000 copies were printed. It was a new type of Christmas publication for Ireland and it was very favourably reviewed. From a modest 2,000 the circulation has grown to 25,000 …’. The flier also profiles some of contributors, articles, and artistic and photographic features to appear in the 1940 edition.

The tradition of "The Capuchin Annual", as you know, has always been along the other line and it is my intention that it shall remain so’. (25 Feb. 1969).

Draft of an article by Fr. Clifford J. Stevens titled ‘Father Flanagan of Boys Town’. The article was written in 1967 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Boys Town, Nebraska, by Fr. Edward Joseph Flanagan. Fr. Stevens was a graduate of Boys Town and served as a chaplain in the United States Air Force stationed in Japan.
