Typed report on CPI and KO activities. The following items are mentioned in the report: Mick McCarthy’s criticism of William Norton, Minister for Industry and Commerce, for visiting America and attempting to get American industries located here. He called for the nationalization of Irish banks. He said that Russian children were better off than Irish children regarding social security and education. He went on to say that prices of essential goods should be controlled and that differential rents be stabilized. The special Larkin anniversary (9th) meeting was held on the 30th January. Joe Deasy gave a talk on Larkin, episodes from recordings of plays, poems and recordings were listened to.
Typed report on the Left-Wing Labour group, of which Patrick Gibbons is also a member. He was an active Communist 20 years ago. Some members who were expelled from the Dun Laoire Branch of the Labour Party are involved in the group. The group is to work secretly to create such a position within the Labour Party that would force Mr. William Norton, Minister for Industry and Commerce, to resign.
Typed report on CPI and KO activities. George Jeffares gave a lecture on “The Crisis of Imperialism”, arguing that Imperialism symbolized aggression and injustice to weaker peoples. He quoted the present situation in Cyprus. He said that the Americans were furthering the cause of Imperialism by giving help to the British Empire and that the only answer to Imperialism is the policy of the USSR. The members of the IWL were urged to press for wage increases at Trade Union meetings. The Left-Wing group decided at a meeting to publish a circular setting out the 12 points in the Labour Party programme and how these points have been neglected.
Typed report on CPI and KO activities. The meeting on the 27th March expressed concern with the likelihood of redundancy and unemployment due to the economic situation. On the 29th March Carmody gave the third of his lectures on Sean O’Casey. Two members of IWL took part in the Easter Commemoration parade at Glasnevin Cemetery
