Handwritten letter to +McQuaid from J.P. Lonan [sic] Murphy, 29, Ailesbury Road, returning Mr. Griffin’s letter and sending a short typed note on the points he raised. He cannot reconcile the facts in the O’Reilly (piano) case with the legal rights of hirers (Gills). Suggests Miss O’Reilly calls to Myra House and her position in law would be investigated free of charge. He has not met Mr. Griffin, but some of the early I.C.R.P.A. literature savoured very much of anti- Semitism. 3/ 25/ 5/2. Typed note by J.P.L. Murphy on the points raised about Moneylenders, Hire Purchase, Trading in Pawn tickets, Provident Cheques by Mr. Griffin. 3/ 25/6. 31 March 1942 Handwritten letter to + McQuaid from George Griffin, President, I.C.R.P.A., enclosing the solicitor’s report on Mrs O’Reilly’s piano. Mrs O’Reilly and he attended Myra House as recommended by the Archbishop, but were told as they already had legal advice on the matter nothing could be done. Messrs Gill refuses to accept the balance due on the piano. 3/ 25/7. Leaflet on the Jewish Question.
Sea Fisheries Bill.
Handwritten letter to +McQuaid from R. Seagraves-Daly, President, Muintir na Mara, appealing for his help. The Dept. of Fisheries will be placed under the jurisdiction of Mr. Arsine Childers, who, he is reliably informed, is a Freemason. Exhorts him to use his influence to have Mr. Childers’s appointments cancelled.
Statement on Fisheries Policy.
Proclamation of the United Christian Nationalist Party.
Typed letter to Peter Huxley-Blythe from George V. Allen. As their magazine is about to go to press it is vital that a history of the RRF organisation is received immediately.
Handwritten draft of letter by + McQuaid. Is convinced that a series of lectures or articles on the underground movement of anti-Communist character in Russia and satellite countries can do no good to the Faith in these countries.
Typed note to + McQuaid stating that Mr. Roche does not think that his idea is imprudent. Perhaps his local CC would go into the matter with him in light of the answer given by His Grace. It would be better for him to give lectures on the plight of Catholics behind the Curtain. Note in Archbishop’s hand says he will not agree to underground lectures.
Copy of typed letter to Fr. Farrell from the Secretary informing him of Mr. Roche’s letter regarding lectures on the anti-Communist Underground Movement behind the Iron Curtain. Perhaps Fr. Farrell would explain to Mr. Roche that + McQuaid feels such lectures could harm Catholics under persecution.
Handwritten letter to Fr. Martin from Fr. Christopher Farrell saying he called to see Mr. Roche and explained + McQuaid’s wishes regarding lectures on the anti-Communist Movement behind the Iron Curtain. He agreed to comply with the Archbishop’s wishes.
