Finn’s Leinster Journal

Founded by Edmund Finn in 1767, this newspaper was published in Kilkenny twice weekly (on Wednesdays and Saturdays). It also included local news from surrounding counties including Carlow, Kildare, Tipperary, and Waterford. Following the death of her husband in 1777, Catherine Finn took over the running of the paper. It was subsequently published as the 'Leinster Journal' (1801-1830), and the 'Kilkenny Journal and Leinster Commercial and Literary Advertiser' (1832-1922). The file includes the following editions:

Finner Camp

This record is part of the list of all the missions preached by the Passionist Fathers in St. Patricks Province (Ireland and Scotland), from 1927 up until 1965. It is just an electronic list with no physical counterpart. It has been made available to aid research into the Passionists.

First Anniversary Memorial Cards for 1916 Rising Leaders

First anniversary cards for the executed leaders of the 1916 Rising including one card for Joseph Mary Plunkett, William Pearse, Michael O’Hanrahan, Edward Daly, another for Major John MacBride, and one for ‘for the repose of the souls of the following Irishmen who were executed by English Law’. (Hand coloured, tricolour and green flag over crossed pikes. Interlacing ribbon reads: ‘Our Prayers Daily’.

First Annual Report of the Total Abstinence Sodality and Hall

Report of the Halston Street Total Abstinence Sodality founded by Fr. Albert Mitchell OSFC in 1881. The report refers to the efforts to improve and renovate the Hall since the sodality took possession of the building. The report reads ‘When we took possession of this place it was in a very sad and forlorn condition, so dilapidated by time, and the many uses it was put to (I believe its last use was that of a blacksmith’s forge)’. The report also provides figures for income and expenditure. The figures read: debt: £35 7s 11½d; expenditure: £255 12 2½d. It also notes that the pledge has been given to over 1,000 men in the Hall and to over 900 in St. Michan’s Church, Halston Street. With a typescript copy of said report.
