The letter is addressed to Frances Woodlock (possibly William Woodlock’s wife) and refers to the school recently established by the religious sisters in the city. The letter adds ‘Aberdeen is a most interesting old place owing its origin to St. Machar, a disciple of St. Columba. It had many holy Bishops in the good old times and the tombs of several of them are still to be seen’.
