Register of Isolated Tertiaries

Register of isolated female tertiaries attached to the Capuchin Friary, Church Street, Dublin. The entries are listed alphabetically by surname and address. Occasional reference is also made to the payment of subscription and membership fees.

Register of Isolated Tertiaries

The title page of the register notes that it was begun on 27 Sept. 1934. The register contains a list of tertiaries arranged in alphabetical order by county. Entries are listed under name, address and presumably date of reception. Annotation on the verso of fly leaf reads: ‘Under authority granted him by the Sacred Congregation of Religious Affairs, the Most Rev. Fr. General issued on March 15, 1938, a 'Sanatio' for all receptions and professions as well as establishment of fraternities of Third Order (and branches of Cordbearers) under the jurisdiction of Capuchins, in case they had invalid on account of bona fide defects. He ordains that the 'sanatio' or validation be noted in each Fraternity Record of Reception and Profession; a copy of the validation is to be preserved in the local archives’. A copy of the 'Decretum', 15 Mar. 1938, is pasted into the volume. It is noted that the ‘number on the register in Sept. 1934’ was 505 Sisters, 184 Lay brothers, total, 689; the number on the register in Dec. 1935, totalled 915. With inserts of correspondence re the reception of isolated tertiaries. Many of the inserts refer to individuals received into the Third Order at an earlier date than the volume.

Bound volume annotated on the title page: ‘Register of Entertainments’. The volume contains a schedule of public entertainment (mostly motion pictures) at Father Mathew Hall, Church Street. The entries are listed under the headings of date of entertainment, full name and addresses of person(s) holding entertainment (all are staged by the Father Mathew Hall Committee); title of work presented or delivered; name of author of work or owner of copyright if any; full name and address of the person by whom the work was performed, exhibited or delivered. 2 May 1937-3 October 1937. The films shown include 'Anna Karenina' (1935), 'Escape from Devil Island' (1935), and 'Devil's Squadron' (1936). The remainder of the volume is comprised of an alphabetical list of names and addresses of subscribers to 'The Father Mathew Record'. The end portion of the volume also contains a list compiled in 1936 of Brothers of the Third Order attached to St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street.

Schedule of public entertainment at Father Mathew Hall, Church Street. The reverse of the front cover contains a list of entertainments under the headings of date of entertainment, full name and addresses of person(s) holding entertainment; title of work presented or delivered; name of author of work or owner of copyright if any; full name and address of the person by whom the work was performed, exhibited or delivered. 2 May 1937-3 June 1937. The entertainment included the film 'Man of Aran' (1934) and Sean O’Casey’s play 'The Shadow of a Gunman' (1923). The remainder of the volume is comprised of expenditure and accounts for various theatrical productions, May 1937-October 1957. Includes accounts for publicity, costumes, salaries, orchestra and other expenses associated with various pantomime performances of 'Cinderella' (1939-40); 'The Gondoliers' (Sept.-Oct. 1940); 'Jack and the Beanstalk' (1943); 'Robinson Crusoe' (1944); 'The Height of Fashion' (Oct. 1957). Inserts include a typescript programme for a lecture and a concert at Father Mathew Hall, Church Street. 19 Nov. 1939. The lecture is titled ‘Six years in Africa’ by Fr. Fintan Roche OFM Cap.

Register of Elections and Book of Chapter

A ledger which contains a Register of the Acts of Election of the Superioress of the convent. A hardcover notebook 1819 – 1880, the first page refers to the election of the Superioress and the following pages refer to the progress of the Postulants and the Novices. This series contains items associated with the organizational life of the community. It contains decisions taken by a group of Sisters in community known as ‘Discreets’. This group was comprised of the Reverend Mother, her Assistant, the Mistress of Novices and the Bursar. They had the right to make decisions on every aspect of community life that did not require episcopal sanction.

Register of accounts with various suppliers for goods and services supplied to the Capuchin friars in Church Street. The register includes accounts for pharmaceuticals, wine, and various foodstuffs. Fr. Denis Corkery OFM Cap. annotated some of the pages in the volume with Irish language extracts.
