Seamus Murphy / Munster Fine Art Club Exhibition

A clipping of photographs from the opening of the Munster Fine Art Club Exhibition in Cork. Includes an image of Seamus Murphy with his limestone sculpture of the head of Saint Patrick (now held in Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth). The exhibition was opened by Professor Denis Gwynn. The article was published in ‘Irish Tatler & Sketch’ (November 1949).

Seamus Murphy

A photograph of Seamus Murphy, sculptor (1907-1975), a Cork-born sculptor, and an important figure in twentieth century Irish art. The photograph shows Murphy under the pillars of the old butter exchange building opposite the tower of the Church of St Anne, Shandon, in his native Cork.

Scríbhne Risteird de Hindeberg

A copy of Seán Ó Currín, ‘Scríbhne Risteird de Hindeberg’ (Baile Atha Cliath: Brun agus Nualan). An edited collection of Fr. Richard Henebry’s writings and speeches published in 1924. Includes a photographic print of Henebry. With a manuscript dedication from the author to Br. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. Several clippings, mostly of reviews of the book (in English), are inserted into the volume. One of the clippings is of an article on the funeral of Nóra Ní Fhoghluda (d. Dec. 1925), the wife of Tadhg Ó Donnchadha (‘Torna’). Several Capuchin friars attended the funeral in the Church of Immaculate Conception in Cork.
