– 18 July Correspondence between +Levame & +McQuaid in relation to 1956 an article published in a year book for Christ Church (Protestant Church), Dun Laoghaire by the Ecclesiastical Press and which ridicules Marian Devotion in the Catholic Church. There also exists a leaflet which reprints some letters of protest which have appeared in the ‘Evening Mail’ last March. The Archbishop feels no further action is needed as the offensive article received stern condemnation, even from Protestants, and it is unlikely the printing company will offend again. He described the ‘Evening Mail’ as a ‘…journal de bas etage’. The letters in this newspaper are often to be suspected as they are often composed in order to keep up an interest in the newspaper which in turn promotes its sale.
