Homily for Fr. Albeus McQuillan OFM Cap. (1912-1989). He died in Cape Town, South Africa, on 10 August 1989. The homily was preached in the Welcome Estate Church by Fr. Wilfred Aherne OFM Cap. It was noted that Fr. Albeus ‘spent almost thirty years a missionary in Zambia and the past eighteen years ministering in the Capuchin parishes of the Cape Town Archdiocese. His brother Fr. Jerome McQuillan OFM Cap. died in 1968, also in Cape Town’.

The notes refer to the impact of European colonization, to the work of religious missionaries in the area, and to the Zambian independence movement.

A chronological history (from 1931-81) of the Irish Capuchin mission in Northern Rhodesia (later Zambia) compiled by Fr. Luke Browne OFM Cap. Particular attention is given to the arrival of the Capuchin missionary friars, the work of clerical and lay mission personnel, relations with local communities, evangelisation, the construction of mission stations, schools and hospitals in Barotseland (later the Western Province of the Republic of Zambia) and the general administration of the mission.

Ceremonial for the consecration of Monsignor Adrian Mung’andu as Bishop of Livingstone on 9 Feb. 1975 at the Church of Christ the King, Maramba Mission, in succession to Bishop Timothy Phelim O’Shea OFM Cap. At the mass, Fr. Alfred O’Mahony OFM Cap. preached a sermon on the history of the Irish Capuchin presence in Zambia. With a flier re the ordination written by Fr. Edwin Flynn OFM Cap.
