The title page reads: ‘The ledger of the Capuchin Convent, Kilkenny, August 6th 1860 and 1861-1880’. The manuscript title is initialled by Fr. Patrick Joseph Columbus Maher OSFC. Most of the expenditure entries relate to household sundries, wages and expenses incurred for the upkeep of the church and friary. Most of the income derives from monies received at collections at Sunday mass and at vespers. Monthly totals are included. The entry for 14 Aug. 1867 is signed by the Irish Capuchin Commissionary General.
Ledger containing an alphabetically arranged listing of accounts with various suppliers mostly in Kilkenny. The volume includes accounts with Walter Lanigan, draper, J. White, organ tuner, the Hibernian Bank, the Gas Company, Coyle Brothers, stationers, the Sisters of Charity, and St. Joseph’s Schools. An index is given at the start of the volume. Manuscript title on front cover reads ‘House Ledger’.
Day account book of house expenses, Capuchin Friary, Walkin Street, Kilkenny. The manuscript title is signed by ‘Fr. Edward Tommins OFSC, guardian’. The volume includes accounts for routine household expenses such as foodstuffs, washing, clothing, stationary and newspapers. Other expenses included wages paid to lay staff (cooks, the chapel caretaker and porters). Many of the entries are endorsed ‘transferred to ledger’. See CA KK/3/1/1.
Copy probate and will of William Hogan, Kilkenny city. He bequeaths £20 to Fr. Edward Tommins OSFC and the clergy of the Walkin Street Friary for masses for the repose of his soul. The codicil is dated 19 Feb. 1880 and notes that Hogan died on 27 Jan. 1880. Certified copy by James Poe, District Registrar.
Will of Elizabeth Roche of Ormonde Road, Kilkenny. She bequeathed to the Most Rev. Abraham Brownrigg, Bishop of Ossory ‘all monies in my name in government stock in trust … to pay the guardian of the Order of Franciscans in the City of Kilkenny ten pounds yearly for masses for the repose of my soul and those of the deceased members of my family to be celebrated in public in Ireland …’. The codicil is dated 26 Oct. 1904.
Acknowledgment from Fr. Ignatius Collins OFM Cap., guardian, regarding the receipt of £20 from the estate of Nora Tobin (late of Kells, County Kilkenny) for masses for the repose of her soul and those of her deceased relatives and friends.

Notes compiled by John O’Connell (1843-1905), a grandson of Daniel O’Connell, ‘The Liberator’. The book contains accounts of various Provincial Chapters of the Capuchin Order in Ireland, records of personnel changes in various Capuchin communities, and notes on meetings and other activities of the Third Order of St. Francis in Kilkenny. Records include membership and ordination lists. Newspaper cuttings are pasted into the volume. A photographic print of the Capuchin Friary at Rochestown in also extant in the volume.
