These humorous black-ink drawings depict aspects of Capuchin Franciscan life and were regularly published in the 'Annual'. Fr. Gerald also served as assistant-editor of the publication. The themes include Christmas festivities, pranks and mischiefs involving Capuchins (some of the friars depicted, including Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap., were known to Fr. Gerald), sports, music, everyday chores and religious rituals.

Illustrations by Fr. Francis Xavier Dent

File containing illustrations by Fr. Francis Xavier Dent submitted by John Mescal for potential publication in 'The Capuchin Annual'. A letter (19 Mar. 1976) from Mescal to Fr. Henry Anglin OFM Cap. notes that Fr. Dent gave him final versions of his poems and some accompanying illustrations in about 1964, shortly before his tragic death. Mescal notes that poems by Fr. Dent were published in 'The Capuchin Annuals' in 1952, 1953-4, and in 1955, and expresses his hope that Fr. Dent’s final poems and illustrations can be published in the Annual. The file includes a bound volume with sketches titled ‘Mary, Mother of Sorrows’, and many ink illustrations drawn by Fr. Dent 'Annual' from c.1952-61. Includes images of the Nativity, St. Joan of Arc, landscapes and still-lifes. With newsletters from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Highbury, London (May- July 1959).
