He attaches a slip containing the occasions of collections, "which the Bishop has asked me to attend to at Cloonamahon". Fr. Austin adds a note that he has ascertained from the Bishop that the customary November dead list does not break the agreement with the Bishop regarding collections. It seems that the bishop thought Gerald might be jumping the gun a bit, as he explains that he still needds to consult certain members of the diocese about the matter. However, he does not see any great difficulty.

Austin records that the Bishop has given "verbally, but very definitely", his consent to an arrangement that, if through understaffing in the Retreat, there is not sufficient resident priests to undertake supplies in the Diocese, faculties are granted, through the rector, to any priests from other retreats for work in the diocese provided they are approved by the Provincial for preaching and hearing confessions.
