An original total abstinence pledge card of Jonathon Murphy dated 4 Nov. 1839. The card is signed by Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC. Manuscript annotations on the card indicate that the pledge was renewed on 31 Aug. 1860 and 17 Mar. 1864.
An original total abstinence pledge card of Walter Walsh dated 28 Feb. 1842. Manuscript annotation on frame reads ‘Presented by J. Walsh, 38 Killeen Road, Rathmines, grandson of the recipient’. The frame backing has a manuscript annotation: ‘February 1936’.

The issue carried a commentary titled ‘Franciscan Notes and News’, referring to the work done by Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap. and Fr. Columbus Murphy OFM Cap. during the Easter Rising (pp 182-5).
