Dr. Raifortaigh phoned him to say – coldly – that the Minister had received the letter; that he understood it to mean that Managers were not providing supervisors or correctors. Letter from Mgr. Charles van den Ouwelant, Apostolic Administrator to +McQuaid stating the Sisters of Mercy from Cork have made their first foundation in the Far East. He wants to write to other congregations to invite them to the Philippines but seeks the permission of the Archbishop first.
Handwritten telephone message. Mr. O Broin, Secretary to the Post Office, rang to say that there was a tentative proposal to issue a stamp in 1954 to commemorate the Marian Year. The matter will not be taken further until he knew +McQuaid’s view.
