The Franciscan Capuchin Mission Manual published at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street, Dublin. The manual contains hymns, information on mission ceremonials, notes on the Father Mathew Total Abstinence Association, and the form of the pledge to be taken at missions given by the Capuchin friars.

Framed Temperance Medals

Two framed temperance medals. Both of the medals have ribbons attached (purple and green). The purple ribbon has the following inscription: ‘Approach them once a month / Live worthy of them the entire month / They loose and bind in heaven’. The medal with the green ribbon has an image of St. Patrick with the motif ‘Apostle of Ireland / Pray for Us’. The inscription above reads ‘Temperance / Perseverance’.

Many of these deeds are listed in the collection above.

Newspaper cuttings, ceremonial booklet and other documents relating to the consecration of Monsignor Timothy Phelim O’Shea OFM Cap. as Vicar Apostolic of Livingstone by the Most Rev. Ettore Felici, Apostolic Nuncio, at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street, Dublin, on 8 September 1950. The attendees included President Sean T. O’Kelly, the Taoiseach, John A. Costello, and Éamon de Valera. The file includes cuttings of photographic prints of the consecration mass, the departure of Bishop O’Shea OFM Cap. from Dublin to return to Africa (with Fr. Colman Griffin OFM Cap., Provincial Minister). Includes cuttings from the 'Dublin Evening Mail' and the 'Irish Press'.

Sidney Royse Lysaght (1860-1941

Draft article by Edward MacLysaght titled ‘S.R. Lysaght: The Author and the Man’. The file also contains a copy manuscript titled ‘Another Imaginary Conversation / 3 Dec. 1931’ compiled for an article titled: ‘Sidney Royce Lysaght: the author and the man’, published in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1975), pp 225-229. The piece was written by Edward MacLysaght. The manuscript refers to family reminiscences pertaining especially to his father, Sidney Royse Lysaght (1860-1941), an Irish writer, who worked in the iron industry. His son, Edward MacLysaght (1887-1986), was a writer and authority on Irish family history. The file also includes two copies of ‘The amazing war experiences of Patrick Lysaght / An Irishman of the Royal Irish Rifles / the first unit to meet the Germans at Mons in 1914’. It is noted that this narrative was first recorded in December 1938.

Newspaper cuttings book compiled and annotated by Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. Printed stamp on inside front cover: ‘Franciscan Capuchin Library, Church Street, Dublin’. The pages have been numbered by Fr. Stanislaus. The book includes on pp 47-52 cuttings of photographic prints reporting the funeral of Thomas McCurtain, Lord Mayor of Cork. The clippings are taken from 'Cork Examiner', 'Irish Independent', 'Daily Sketch', 'Freeman’s Journal', 23-27 Mar. 1920. The clippings contain references to Fr. Dominic O’Connor OFM Cap.
