• Newspaper cutting of an article titled Carmel in Kinsale re the history of the Carmelites in Kinsale, County Cork. Reference is made in the article to the preaching of a sermon by Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC in the church in 1844. It reads: ‘A manuscript History of the Temperance Reformation by James McKenna, Chief Travelling Secretary to the Very Rev. • Newspaper cutting of article by ‘Dogliente’ re the need for the preservation of Thomastown Castle, Fr. Mathew’s birthplace. A memorandum attached to the cutting reads: ‘Our representative was informed that as far back as 1916 the Superiors of the Capuchin Order were very concerned about the condition of the historic house which through neglect was fast going into a state of ruin. To preserve the house they were prepared, with the sanction of their higher Superiors, to take over the property, but failed to obtain [the] necessary ecclesiastical authority to do so’. Memoranda and notes re the Harry Clarke stained glass windows in Holy Trinity Church, Cork. The file includes: a manuscript note by Fr. Martin Hyland OSFC, guardian, re the windows designed for James O’Donovan who donated £700 for their installation; a typescript ‘explanation of the stained glass windows in Holy Trinity by J. Clarke & Sons'; a manuscript note (possibly by Harry Clarke Studios) re a memorial window erected by Cork trade unionists in recognition of Fr. Thomas Dowling in 1918.
