It traces the history from early Franciscan attempts to the work of Rev. Luciano O’Suna – who established St. Turibius Mission – and Dominican Father William O’Connor. By the time of writing, the Capuchin Fathers and Dominican Sisters of Ukiah had assumed charge, ministering across four regional Rancheria churches (St. Dominic, Pinoleville; St. Joseph, Talmage; St. Patrick, Sanel; and St. Francis, Hopland). The text concludes with a description of a festive New Year’s party on 4 January held for two hundred local indigenous residents, which featured a mass, a feast, gift-giving, traditional tribal dances, and a shared prayer at the sound of the Angelus Bell.
