Postcard from Sister Mary Stella Phelan

A postcard from Sister Mary Stella Phelan (1925-2001), Medical Missionaries of Mary, to Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. The postcard shows the Cunard White Star liner ‘Mauretania’ which took Sister Mary Stella and Mother Mary Martin to the United States.

Capuchin Mission Apostolate

Flier requesting contributions to the Capuchin Mission Apostolate in Barotseland, Northern Rhodesia. The fund was open to lay mission associates, mission helpers and child missionaries.

African Mission Album of Fr. Alfred O’Mahony OFM Cap.

A small album containing photographic negative sheets compiled by Fr. Alfred O’Mahony OFM Cap. (1912-1988) mostly relating to the work of Irish Capuchin missionaries in Africa. An annotation on the inside cover reads: ‘Fr. Alfred O’Mahony / Sancta Maria / Mongu / Northern Rhodesia’. The album has a manuscript index to the contents. The album includes images of baptisms, school groups, religious sisters in Lukulu, Sichili, Livingstone and Sawmils in Northern Rhodesia, and in Langa, Athlone and Parow in Cape Town, South Africa. Images of Victoria Falls (1942) and the Zambezi River are also extant in the file. There are also prints of groups of friars in Rochestown College, County Cork (1931-2), and in Knock, County Mayo (1940).

Phoenix Park Murders

A clipping of a report on the murders of Lord Frederick Cavendish, the Chief Secretary for Ireland, and Thomas Henry Burke, Permanent Secretary for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, on 6 May 1882. The report was published in the ‘Morning Post’ newspaper.

Sir John Lavery’s Funeral

Visitation Ordinances

Bound volume of Visitation Ordinances of the Superior General or those he sent on his behalf. They are all in English except for one report which is in French. The first visitation report is by Marianus Maller, Commissary sent by the Superior General, for a visitation from 29 May to 3 June 1877. The last few visitations were by the Irish Provincial, James Bennett CM, to the Blackrock House.
