Pulling together

A postcard print of a cartoon image of a boat at sea named ‘Irish Nationality’, being navigated by a priest (presumably representing the Catholic Church). The boat is being rowed by leading Irish politicians such as Éamon de Valera and Arthur Griffith. Each of their respective political parties are represented in writing on their oars – Sinn Féin, Labour, and the Nationalist Party. Printed by the Gaelic Press. The artist’s initials are given as ‘H.O’N’.

Surviving Members of the First Oireachtas of 1897

A photographic print of the surviving members of the First Oireachtas held in 1897. The photograph was taken in College Park in Dublin in 1947. The group includes Tadhg Ó Donnchadha (‘Torna’), Seosamh Ó Conchubhair, Pádraig Ó Siochfhradha (‘An Seabhac’), and Seamus MacManus.

Home Rule Demonstration

A photographic print of large crowd assembled on O’Connell Bridge and around the O’Connell Monument for a Home Rule demonstration in Dublin. The event was held on 31 March 1912. The large banner on the platform at the base of the O’Connell Monument reads ‘Ireland A Nation’. The rally was organised by the moderate nationalists in the Irish Parliamentary Party.
