Some members of the Public Health Committee say it would be preferable to keep the children in their own home during the absence of the mother, using trained Home Helps. Others suggested to accept the offer of the Sisters of Mercy to care for the children in three institutions.
Typed letter to +McQuaid from P.J. Hillery enclosing reports which had been received from Superintendents at the Cistercian College, Roscrea. These are shocking and must be classed as a terrible indictment of members of a prominent Religious Order. Many managers have been contributing to the efforts of the teachers to prevent the satisfactory holding of the examinations.
