Copy deed of conveyance from the FMC Trust, c/o Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, to Edward and Corann Loughlin, 31 Thorndale Drive, Malahide Road, Artane, Dublin 5, of all premises and property situated at the junction of Friary Street and Garden Row with the yard at the rear thereof held in fee simple and subject to the terms and conditions as set down in the fee farm grant (29 Oct. 1898) from Penelope H. Colles and others to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC and Fr. Fidelis Neary OSFC at an annual rent of £13 7s 8d. Consideration: £101,000. With draft copies, draft memorandum of agreement, draft conditions of sale and a blank memorial for registering the said deed in the Registry of Deeds.

Memorandum of agreement of Stephen Lalor [var. Lawlor], builder, Walkin Street, Kilkenny with Fr. Fidelis Neary OSFC, guardian, Capuchin Friary. The agreement (compiled by M.M. Murphy, solicitor) stipulates that Lalor will complete the building works on the Capuchin Friary and Chapel in Kilkenny according to the specifications set down by Samuel Francis Hynes, architect. The total cost of the works and labour is £3,430 13s 4d.

Expenditure accounts for new Friary building

Expenditure accounts in connection with the building of a new Friary on Walkin Street. The accounts provide details of expenditure including Stephen Lalor, builder (£1,337 12s 7d); Samuel Hynes, architect (£100); alms house purchase (£315 2s 0d). A noted is appended to the accounts: ‘The above items were paid by cheque from bank. Some other items in connection with demolition of old house, repairing of new Alms House &c come under the ordinary expenses of the house’. Includes statement of ‘total amount of contract for addition &c to church and convent, Kilkenny, £3,430 13s 3d’. Endorsed on verso ‘statement of accounts given by Fr. Fidelis on the state of his house’.

Capuchin Friars with Donal Óg Ó Ceallacháin, Lord Mayor of Cork

An image of Donal Óg Ó Ceallacháin (Donal O’Callaghan), front row, third from the left, Lord Mayor of Cork, with some Capuchin friars in 1921. Ó Ceallacháin succeeded Terence MacSwiney (d. 25 Oct 1920) as Lord Mayor in November 1920. He was the third republican mayor elected in Cork. Later, he was opposed to the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The group also includes Frank Daly (1884-1950), seated, second from the left, who served as mayor from 1930-2, and was later a TD for Cork from 1943-8. Professor PJ Merriman, President of University College Cork, seated, third from the right, is also present. The friars include Fr. Fiacre Brophy OFM Cap. (1888-1926), seated, first on the left, Fr. Martin Hyland OFM Cap (1881-1933), seated, fourth from the left. The group also includes Mr. Simcox, Mike Ahern (Prefect of the Third Order of St. Francis), Fr. Finbarr O’Callaghan OFM Cap., Fr. Bernardine Harvey OFM Cap., Fr. Clement Connolly OFM Cap., Fr. Fidelis Neary OFM Cap., (standing, third from the left), Fr. Pius Duggan OFM Cap., and Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. (standing, first on the right). An annotation on the reverse lists the individuals present in the photograph.

Requisitions on title

Requisitions on title on behalf of the trustees of the Cork Assembly Rooms relating to rents payable under the lease of certain premises on Queen Street dated 1 Jan. 1846 (see CA HT/2/1/1/9). The requisitions also ask for negative searches in the Registry of Deeds against Fr. Thomas Matthew O’Connor OSFC, Fr. Michael Leonard Brophy OSFC and Fr. Michael Fidelis Neary OSFC. Agreement for sale from William Adams, Queen Street, to Fr. Matthew (Thomas) O’Connor OSFC, Fr. Leonard (Michael) Brophy OSFC and Fr. Fidelis (Michael) Neary OSFC, Holy Trinity Church, Cork, for premises on Queen Street held under a lease dated 1 Jan. 1846 (CA/HT/2/1/1/9) and for a property known as No. 13 Queen Street held under a lease dated 1 Oct. 1887 for 99 years at the yearly rent of £20. The properties were purchased for £840 free from encumbrances. With searches, bills, instructions for counsel, letters from William Guest Lane, solicitor, and an assignment of said leases from Adams to the Capuchin friars dated 29 Mar. 1900.
